The 2013 Screen Actors Guild were held in Los Angeles this past Sunday, and while a more low-key awards ceremony it was not one that calls for boring fashion. I present to you my top 5 best and worst dressed stars of the night. All of the images are curtesy of the amazing Getty Images.
5.) Rose Byrne in Valentino. This dress is somehow too light, but too overpowering for her. Her skin is too light, and her hair is to dark for this dress to actually work for her. It also does not fit her properly in the waist, and the side ruffles just make her seem a lot wider then I am sure she really is.
4.) Lea Michele in Valentino. I am convinced that whoever is styling this Glee star at the moment needs some serious sense knocked into them. This dress does not fit Lea Michele right at all, it shortens her even more then she is already short. The dress itself looks like a giant curtain taken off a wall and draped around her, a-la Carol Burnett in her infamous Gone With The Wind skit from her tv show.
3.) Jessica Lange in J Mendel. I am a FERVENT Lange fan but this dress is all kinds of wrong. She has reached that point in her life where trying to be revealing and sexy is something that cannot be done right. You can see way too much of her through the dress, and I am not about it. It does not fit her right, and all of the ruching accentuates the unflattering parts of her body.
2.) January Jones in Prabal Gurung. The thing with this is that she is trying so hard to be edgy. She is like trying to channel David Bowie or something, but it just is not working at all. She is trying to hard hard that it just does not click. She is too pale for this dress to even have been an option for her.
1.) Kaley Cuoco in Romona Keveza. I mean I should have expected this after her look at the Golden Globes. The dress is an amazing color, and has a great print on it, but nothing can save this look. The hair is all wrong, her make up makes her look like a drug addict, and the dress makes her seem like she belongs cast in The Hobbit. I HATE it!
5.) Idina Menzel in Swarovski. This is a very romantic gown, quite the bold look for the plus one at the awards show. It’s sultry and has a gorgeous mermaid bottom. Maybe I’m a little partial to things she wears because I helped save her life one day, but thats besides the point. The dress has just the right amount of jewelry and boob-age, but a different hairstyle might suit her better.
4.) Maria Menounos in Randi Rahm. Holy crap this woman looks amazing! The open back, the perfect jewelry, and great hair. Whoever styles her has a great understanding of completing the entire package of a woman. From any angle their is no way this could look bad! The dress was reserved from the front, yet drop dead gorgeous from the behind.
3.) Teyonah Parris in Monique Lhuillier. The Mad Men star gave me life the other night. Such a gorgeous color on her dark skin. The gown fit her like a glove, and she matched it with just the right amount of jewelry and the perfect up-do. There is NOTHING wrong with this at all!
2.) Kerry Washington in Rodarte. I am convinced that she is an angel sent down from heaven, just gracing us with her presence. The embellishments and the lace details seem almost bridal, but she pulls it off with minimal makeup and almost no jewlery. It just looks simple, clean, and practically perfect in every way. Well done Washington, makes up for her Golden Globes look without a doubt.
1.) Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen. This women does it all! She had the top two highest grossing movies this past weekend, Zero Dark Thirty and Mama, while she is currently starring in the incredibly successful broadway production of The Heiress. Somehow she still has the time to show up to every red carpet looking flawless. She is serving some us some Jessica Chastain realness, and I love it. She has the perfect Harry Winston necklace and very fresh hair and makeup. She does no wrong!
Some honorable mentions should go to people like Jennifer Lawrence, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Garner, and Giuliana Rancic. Check back here as awards season continues with the Grammy’s, Oscars, and everything else that comes up in the world of fashion.
